Jenna Barufka is a writer and educator based in New York City. She earned her bachelor’s degree in creative writing from Columbia University in 2021. In addition to writing for MPOWER, she freelances as a tutor, essay consultant for Ardent Academy, and AI writing editor for Scale AI.
Through my work, I hope to democratize access to literacy tools and inspire an enthusiasm for reading and writing in kids. In 2022, I ran the children’s floor at Strand Book Store, where I cultivated relationships with the neighborhood kids and hosted a weekly story hour. During the 2023-2024 school year, I worked as a literacy tutor at Brilla College Prep Middle, delivering a targeted curriculum to bring struggling students up to grade level. Currently, I write blog posts for MPOWER Financing, edit LLM responses for Scale AI and independently tutor college applicants. I enjoy helping my students cultivate the skills, confidence and creativity required to articulate their personal stories to the best of their abilities.

At MPOWER Financing, I write blog posts about the educational and funding opportunities available to international students hoping to study in the U.S. or Canada. I try to provide prospective students with the information they need to navigate the intimidating study abroad process, from choosing a degree program to securing financial aid to finding eligible internship opportunities. I aim to contribute to MPOWER’s goals of demystifying the student loan process and improving financial literacy.
